About Tru Publishing

Who is Tru Publishing?

Tru publishing empowers authors by providing expert consultation and multiple publishing options to ensure they bring their message to the world in the most effective manner possible. We are thought-leaders in a new publishing paradigm who understand the importance of author-publisher collaboration. Our core values are integrity, honesty and exceptional author support, through which we hope to redefine how authors view small publishers.

Author Control

First, we believe you should maintain creative control over your book. Tru Publishing will do everything we can to bring your vision to reality, working closely with you on the cover and interior design. We provide creative guidance based on our experience and knowledge of industry standards, but you ultimately control the "look" of your book.

Next, we believe you should own the rights to your work. Tru Publishing never requires you to transfer any creative rights to us. If you decide to use us as a publishing company, you only grant us a license to produce and distribute your book – which can be canceled at any time with written notice.

Finally, we believe you should have a say in the business aspects of your book. This includes setting the retail price, setting the trade discount for retailers, and being able to run a promotion when you want. Pricing strategy consultation is always provided for free with every publishing package, but you get the final say in how your book is priced.

Lower Cost

Tru Publishing strives to keep our prices lower than the industry standard. Because we can have most work completed “in-house” we can charge lower prices than other small publishers. Even when we subcontract professional services such as editing and audiobook production, we work to negotiate the best deals by the most qualified professionals.

Flexibility

At Tru Publishing, we understand that not everybody wants, or needs a publisher as a partner.  Others wouldn't think of publishing a book without one.  It is our desire to help every author determine whether they should self-publish or partner-publish, then provide the services needed to increase their chances for success, whichever path they choose.

What is partner-publishing?

Partner-publishing simply means that the author assumes all production costs for their book while we manage the production process, hire professionals to ensure proper editing, top-level cover and interior design, eBook formatting and more.  We also establish the title in a world-wide distribution channel, Ingram Publisher Services, and provide ongoing collaboration and support to the author for title management, promotion and marketing.  Tru receives compensation for our ongoing efforts by splitting sales profits with the author.

This business model allows us to take greater risk in who we publish and allows more authors to realize their dream of being published.  While we do operate on a fee per service basis, we do not accept all manuscripts into our partner program.  We understand that quality writing is the most important ingredient to a great book, so we choose manuscripts first based on the writing, then on the author's goals and willingness to market their work and build their audience.  Submit a book proposal here.

Manuscripts that are not chosen by our editorial staff for partner-publishing contracts may still utilize the same production process and professional editors and designers to self-publish.

If you don't want to partner, we can help you self-publish

Anyone who has successfully self-published knows that there are many elements to master to produce a book that stands out from the crowd. Not everyone has the time or the desire to learn all that's involved, but still want to retain 100% control of their work.  Our assisted self-publishing option can provide the administrative and production support without requiring any back-end royalty sharing or long-term contracts.

There are no restrictions or submission requirements if you plan to self-publish.

Founders - Kevin & Stephanie Mullani

Picture
Kevin and Stephanie are the husband-wife team who founded Tru Publishing in 2012. After successfully launching a book of their own, several of their friends asked for help publishing their books and Tru Publishing was born. Kevin became a technical expert in eBook creation, websites, online marketing, and print formatting to complement Stephanie's expertise in design, children's book illustration, and copywriting.

Since launching Tru Publishing, they have helped clients from all around the world produce and publish books, including authors from England, Ireland,
Australia and of course, the United States.
Tru Publishing is named after our second son, Ethan Tru Mullani, who transitioned from this world after 12 days of life. His passing inspired us to use our talents, follow our passions, and live life to the fullest. Aside from the company name, we felt that helping others preserve their stories was a beautiful tribute to Ethan and a way to have something continue beyond our own mortal lives. We are grateful for our short time with Ethan, and we honor him as an amazing teacher.
